Flower Shop Ready Training
Who is this for? This three-day intensive training is for a person looking to work in a flower shop and start their career as a florist. You may have retail experience, administrative skills, sales, and phone skills however your knowledge of flower names, procurement procedures, and basic design skills are not at the level to get your foot in the door at a busy flower shop. Or, maybe you are a Master Gardener, landscaper, or have an extensive horticulture background but you do not have basic principles and elements of design, shapes and forms, and the design skills needed to transition in the industry.
What can you expect in Three Days? First, all of our classes are tailored to your needs, so the listed objectives are only suggestions to get through if you have zero experience.
- Flower and Foliage Identification
- Procurement, storage, and handling
- Flower foam versus water designs
- Floral design basic forms and hand ties
- Bench basics, tools, and mechanics
- Holiday awareness and how to be efficient as a new staff member
- Colour theory and how to use it to your advantage
- Packaging and delivery
- Telephone and in-person ordering skills
- How to make yourself valuable
- Repetition, repetition, repetition – repeat your skills to lock in the learning
Tools and supplies – All of your floral, supplies and tools are provided. Please be aware that we will re-use floral in multiple arrangements so that you can make as many possible pieces in the time constraints that we have. Whatever you have finished on the third day will be yours to take home.
What days does this class take place? Don’t worry, we have no set class days. We work on a flexible calendar. You have three days in this class and a total of 15 hours of class time. We can break this up any way that fits into your schedule and the instructors. Weekends are an option and preferred as you will have fewer interruptions.
What if I’m from out of town? Delafield has 5 hotels very close by and Air BNB options available. Our owner Lisa also has a few connections and can get you a few options at a lower rate. If you need a ride from the airport, pick up or Ubers from hotels, please ask and we will help you figure this out.
Fees and payment – You can either register through a specific date you see the class offered online. This will give you a PayPal Credit option to pay over 6 months with 0% interest and I highly recommend setting up a PayPal account before you register. The second option is you may call Lisa and discuss a schedule that works for you and you will be invoiced for the class. Your class will not start until payment has been made as there is a lot of product and hardgoods that needs to be ordered for this class.
What this class does not cover – This particular class is not for funerals, sympathy work, weddings, and events. This class is not for those seeking a career in wedding only floral design. Weddings and Funerals are a specific category to themselves and you can take a look at our Wedding Intensive and Sympathy Intensive classes.
This class is not a virtual class, you need to be present and learn hands-on techniques with an experienced floral educator and someone who can critique your designs, techniques, and flower shop verbiage to set you up for success. IF you need a class like this to be virtual and you are within the continental US, we can arrange that.
Required: Before registering for this you will need to schedule a phone call
